What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is drug-free, non-invasive and effective treatment for a wide range of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. Chiropractic care and therapy treats your muscles, joints, and nervous system to help with various types of pain and conditions. Your chiropractor can treat new pain, chronic pain or long standing pain, and also various other states of wellness including pregnancy, preventative care and more. Whatever the cause of your pain, the team at Mahogany Physiotherapy and Massage clinic has your back!

What to Expect When You See Our Chiropractor

At your first visit, our chiropractor will perform a thorough assessment to gain information on your past injuries, medical history and main concerns to obtain a full understanding of your health. Our chiropractor will want to discuss your goals and how we can help you towards achieving them through chiropractic care. You can expect a full physical examination including assessments of range of motion, strength, neurological functioning, and other concern related tests. After the full assessment, we’ll have a thorough understanding of what’s causing your concern.

If the condition is not within the scope of practice of our chiropractors, they will refer you out for appropriate care. Our chiropractor believes in a co-management approach and any therapies or additional services in which they believe will benefit you will be explained as well.

Once our chiropractor understands the problem, we will develop a personalized plan of care focused on treating your concern, while also educating you on your injury or condition and tools for future prevention. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge to minimize pain and manage symptoms by ensuring you are involved during all stages of your treatment plan.

Upon formulating a plan, our trained chiropractor will perform condition specific chiropractic therapy with a combination of soft tissue techniques, joint manipulations and mobilizations, and/or other modalities. Our team believes in a one-on-one, time-centric treatment, therefore our subsequent treatments are 30 minutes, with the option of a 45 minute treatment for those who require more time.

What is the difference between Chiropractic and Physiotherapy?

Chiropractic focuses mainly on the musculoskeletal system including nerves and joints, using manual manipulation techniques to treat the whole body, whereas physiotherapy focuses on specific physical impairments and disabilities and uses a variety of techniques, including exercise and manual therapy, to improve physical function

How long after a chiropractor will I feel better?

Depending on the extent of the injury, patients typically feel a reduction in pain of 40-80% following their first visit. However, general improvement occurs within 1 to 4 weeks from the start of chiropractic therapy

Who can get a chiropractic adjustment? A chiropractic adjustment is an effective treatment option for all ages, including both children and adults. You will receive a assessment screening before an adjustment to ensure that you're a good candidate for chiropractic care. If chiropractic care is not appropriate for your condition, your chiropractor will refer you to another healthcare provider to help you.

How often will I need adjustments?

It depends on the injury and modalities used.  Our goal is to not only treat the problem but fix the cause of it so it doesn’t return.

How long are treatments?

A comprehensive assessment will first be done and treatment included which can take up to an hour long.  Treatments after typically take less than 30 minutes.   Our Chiros don’t just snap crackle and pop, but assess the underlying cause and fix it.  This may include modalities such as movement, cupping or even shockwave therapy.
